Another Quickie

I haven't forgotten I have a blog, I promise. I'll be back to more regular posting soon. Things have just been hectic lately.

Today, though, I wanted to tell you about Louisa's new favorite song, "Ba-Ba Black Sheep". Many of you probably know this song. But maybe you didn't know that it goes like this:

Baaa-baa black sheep
Hiding in the weeds...

I will try to get a video. It's hilarious. Also hilarious is Louisa's daily proclamation of the smoothie-color-of-the-day. (I've been making fruit smoothies for breakfast for her and for me. Depending on the fruit, they're either yellow or pink.) She's like a little politician declaring the dawn of a new age every morning with her "To-day... we have yellow smoovie!" and "Tomorrow... maybe a pink smoovie." Seriously, you should see it. If I can get my act together to have the camera rolling one morning, I'll show you.

Just a Thought

I saw a TV ad this weekend that got me thinking... I thought this was the original Maverick:

I Can't Keep Up

Right, so I didn't mean to leave you hanging there, wondering how the potty training is going. Day 3 wasn't so good, but things have improved since then. Yesterday she didn't have any accidents at all! Anyway, it's not that I haven't been writing about it because there isn't anything to say-- there's plenty to say but I just can't keep up. I have emails I've needed to write since early July. Lucky for me, my friends seem to know that I'm a terribly slack correspondent and they don't seem to mind months going by without hearing from me.

This past weekend, Louisa suddenly started calling me "Mom" instead of "Mama". I love the way she says "Mama" but I'm equally charmed by this new "Mom". Especially because she seems to really love saying it, so she has a tendency to end each sentence with it. The whole way to school this morning was "What's that truck doing, Mom?" and "I see the green light, Mom!" and "I take my shoes off, Mom!" I have no idea if this is a permanent change or not. Time will tell.

Last night, we took her to see a giant puppet performance. It started at 7pm, which is dicey because it's getting on close to bedtime. Also, we weren't sure what she would think of the puppets or whether she'd be able to sit in her seat for the whole performance. It was at the outdoor theater in Chapel Hill, which is a great setting because there is enough space in the rows for little kids to walk around and not bother anyone. But here's the amazing part: Louisa sat still and watched the puppets for over an hour. She started off sitting in her own chair, but then at one point the music got dramatic and two giant beetles started attacking each other and she basically jumped out of her chair and into her dad's lap saying "I want to go home!" She recovered quickly from that fright, though, and spent the rest of the time sitting in Bill's lap agape at the puppets. Until, that is, she announced, "I have to go potty!" And she did!
